We have been dining at Cipollina since we moved to Austin in 2003, and have always considered it a pleasant place to go for mid-priced non-fussy Italian. Last night we went to sit outside and enjoy the Clarksville scene. He ordered the farmers’ vegetable plate which showcased local red & gold beets as well as orange & purple carrots. She ordered a ceasar salad and spaghetti dish. All was good until the food came. Her wilted salad was drenched in dressing. His vegetable plate was missing the advertised beets and replaced with yellowing broccoli. We informed the manager who apologized, comped our meal and told us she would “take care of us next time”. We don’t desire special treatment, and that comment rubbed us the wrong way. They should take care of their guests EVERY time.
He says: The carrots were actually quite good and when the beets did arrive, on a seperate plate, they were enjoyable as well. I typically order their lamb pizza, which is generally consistently delicious. I am not sure what happened last night and hope it wasn’t indicitive of the classic Austin restaurant downward slide to irrelevence (Moonshine for example).
She says: Watch a few episdoes of Everyday Italian and head to Whole Foods for further cooking inspirtaion before running over to this blase West Lynn cafe.
