Back to Bess

Having each been to Bess for less than stellar meals, we decided to give it a second chance on Valentine’s Eve. The risk paid off as we tried some new dishes (semolina crusted artichoke hearts to start and the pork belly) and customized our orders ever so slightly. Sitting al fresco in the upstairs patio was very pleasant, especially given that it was 70 degrees in February. They also have outdoor seating on the street level, but it was too noisy. We would probably prefer more ambient lighting which could be accomplished with a few more table votives instead of the flat screen TV which hangs awkwardly on the patio.

He says: Hard to pass up pork belly. The sauce was light and the corriander carrots were a nice touch. I particularly enjoyed the cornbread fritters which were perfectly fried. The inside of the restaurant is well appointed and the crowd was hopping. Also a nice place to just saddle up to the bar and grab a drink.

She says: The heavily salted to perfection pommes frites accompanying my Bess top sirloin were a delight. Do what I did and ask for the steak relish and demi glace on the side in order to dress the meat however you wish. Definitely go for the flash fried artichoke hearts and spinach…but share it with friends…it’s a large portion.
