You’ve Won Us Back Kenichi.
We’ve canvased the town for good sushi happy hours and were left choosing between the mediocre rolls at Kenichi, Maiko and Kyoto, but last night Kenichi pulled away from the pack. Their delectable yellow tail collar, which is the “cheek” portion of the hamachi, was broiled and served with a teriyaki glaze. The fish was full of umami flavor and the sauce was light, not overpowering or too sweet. The rolls were also a cut above the rest. The eel roll was pleasantly fresh and the bonzai roll, which for $6 is a steal, wraps together tuna, salmon, yellowtail, tempura asparagus and spicy sauce.
He Says: Though still a shadow of its former self, Kenichi is much closer in quality to Musashino than Maiko or Kyoto. The collar was truly divine.
She Says: Be prepared for ample sriracha in the spicy tuna. It’s a good thing!
